Wood Blinds Vs. Faux Wood Blinds

I get asked all the time this question: What is the difference between wood and faux wood blinds?

So, here is the answer!

Wood Blinds
  • Look and feel like real wood. Stains showcase the wood grain texture in the blinds.
  • Lighter than faux wood blinds. This is important for larger window blinds. Lighter blinds are easier to raise and last longer.
  • Wood blinds have a wide selection of sizes, colors and stainsWood blinds are more expensive but a majority of realtors agree that real wood blinds can increase the resell value of a home.
Faux Wood Blinds

  • Made from synthetic materials so they are less expensive than real wood blinds.
  • More durable. Faux wood blinds are perfect for homes with active children and/or pets.
  • Resist moisture. Faux wood blinds are ideal for bathrooms and kitchens where they will be exposed to moisture and steam.
  • Easy to clean. Because faux wood blinds can get wet they are easy to wipe down with a wet cloth.
  • Faux wood has a limited color selection compared to wood blinds.
    Less Expensive then Wood Blinds.
They are both great blinds, but it's really a personal choice on what you want. Most people can't tell the difference between the two, especially from a distance.

 FAQ's

Will Solar Screens block my view?

Solar Screens are great for allowing outward daytime visibility, while at the same time blocking outsiders from looking in.  Suntex 80 allows the best outward visibility.

Will Solar Screens darken the rooms?

Suntex 80 Solar Screens still allow plenty of light to come in. The light that passes through is softer on your eyes and does an excellent job reducing that awful glare on your television set.

Suntex 90 may noticeably darken rooms, but if you have a glare problem Suntex 90 may be the fix.

How much will Solar Screens save on my electric bill?

Studies show savings up to 30-35% on the "cooling portion" of the electric bill (results will vary). Many times the screens will pay for themselves in as little as 2-3 years

Do Solar Screens reduce fading?

Absolutely, Solar Screens will drastically reduce the damaging UV rays from entering your home and ruining your fabrics, carpet and wood floors.

What's a "Plantation Shutter"?

A plantation shutter is a shutter with louvers wider than 1.25".   If you have a view that you really enjoy, opt for the widest louver available. Wider louvers preserve more of the view.

Did you know?
  • Shutters can be motorized for your convenience and enhanced security.
  • Shutters are available in a variety of colors and styles to enhance your decor.
  • Shutters can be applied to virtually any window covering setting -- doors, specialty windows, and more.
  • Shutters can be used creatively as well -- room dividers, doors, and more.
  • Shutters are inherently cordless, which makes them a good choice for families with small children.
  • Shutters are available in different louver widths -- 1 ¼”, 1 7/8”, 2 ½”, 3 ½”, 4 ½”

Signature Murano Blind

Want something Different in your home?

Then check out our exclusive blind: Murano

It's a flexible, fabric louvered blind that allows filtered light to permeate your space while preserving privacy. It operates like a traditional blind you may have in your home, but unlike a traditional blind, it will hold up to an errant pass during an indoor football game, repeated peeks through the blinds to see who's at the door, damp areas like the kitchen or bath, and much more. It also comes in many colors to add that special accent to your room.

What to do with Arch Windows?

Arch windows can be frustrating when trying to decide on how to cover them. The type of treatment depends on what type of arch's or specialty shade it is.

I am going to show you what I did with a front of a house that has 3 arch top windows.  We used a what's called an arch panel shutter to cover it. These are painted wood shutters with an "Z" Frame. The wall was dry wall, so the Z Frame give it a nice molding around it. The louver's run all the way from the bottom to the top of each panel. We put a divider bar in the shutter so the bottom shutters can tilt independently from the top shutters. The divider bar also hides the lock mechanisms on the window. The louvers are 3 1/2".

This is the Before picture with Curtains on the wall.

And now the finish look with the Shutters!

The shutters gave the room a much nicer, cleaner, fresher look. Now the home owner can tilt the louvers to look outside and still have privacy.
